Wan Kuzri is getting closer to the national B-18

KUALA LUMPUR: US youngster Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal is on the verge of joining the national Under-18 (B-18) squad ahead of the Asian Football Confederation (AF-19) Under-19 Championship in Uzbekistan, October Here.

Team manager Datuk Kamarul Ariffin Mohd Shahar confirmed the development and expects Wan Kuzri, 18, to have no problems completing the documentation process.

Wan Kuzain, 22, joined the Under-22s (B-22) training camp in November last year for the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, but was dropped from the final 20-player list following documentation problems.

Meanwhile, Kamarul Ariffin said Wan Kuzri had also expressed interest in wearing a national team jersey besides being scheduled to attend a national B-18 squad training in Japan in March.

"He was very interested in joining us. According to his original plan he would be flown from the United States to Japan for a training session there, but the plan was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

In addition to Wan Kuzri, Kamarul Ariffin said the coaching staff also monitored the development of two players from Sabah and Malacca who had the potential to be absorbed into the national squad.

The AFC 2020 B-19 Championship qualifies for the Under-20 World Cup (B-20) 2021 in Indonesia and the B-18 squad aims to emerge the first Malaysian team to qualify for merit on the World Cup competition stage.
